Context: How Does This Compare?

In 2023, human drivers in the US were involved in approximately 38,000 fatal crashes and millions of injury crashes. On a per-mile basis, Waymo has reported that its vehicles have significantly fewer serious incidents than average human drivers. However, it's important to note that robotaxis currently operate in favorable conditions (mapped urban areas, daylight, good weather) that aren't representative of all driving.
